Description Chinese Cabbage is a green leafy vegetable that has a tall, extended, oval shape with a semi-tight cone-shaped head. The head and leaves both are edible and can be eaten raw in salads or can be cooked stir-fried, lightly steamed, and served with sauce. The leaves and white stems (head) of the Granaat are crispy and soft, mild, and sweet flavored. Where to grow: Balcony or terrace garden Sowing season: Throughtout the year (Except mid-summer) Sowing method: Direct or Seedling transplant Seeds sowing depth: 0.5 cm deep Germination Time: 7 to 14 days Germination temperature: 12-25°C Harvesting: 60 to 80 days after sowing Plant vigor: Strong plant Soil – Chinese Cabbage should be planted in well-draining, sandy soil that is rich in organic matter. Water – When the temperature is warm-up, regular watering. Never let the soil dry out completely because Chinese Cabbage Granaat likes slightly moist soil. Sunlight – Granaat grows best in full sun but it can also tolerate partial shade. Temperature – Optimum Chinese cabbage growing temperature is 12-25°C; however it can also grow in temperatures between 10-32°C. Common pests and diseases – Cabbage looper, worms, and aphids damage the plants and eat their leaves. Granaat Chinese cabbage is infected with bacterial soft rot and root rot due to excessive soil moisture, over-watering, and poor drainage. To protect the Granaat from insects or pests, spray neem oil on your plants.
